Projects

Educational, Outreach and Training Partnership for Advanced Computational Infrastructure (EOT-PACI)

The mission of EOT-PACI is to develop human resources through the innovative use of emerging information technologies to understand and solve problems. Richard Tapia serves as national co-leader and Cynthia Lanius as national program manager.

Alliances for Graduate Education and the Professoriate at Rice (AGEPR)

Rice's Diversity Graduate Program provides a year round community experience that encourages SME graduate enrollment, supports Ph.D. degree completion, and exposes students to rigorous academic discipline. Together with strong commitments by Rice University, this program is designed to permanently alter the institution's graduate student diversity. Outreach to the University of Wisconsin-Madison creates a satellite program designed to increase diversity on that campus.

Operation Science, Math, and Relevant Technology (SMART)
The mission of Girls Incorporated of Greater Houston is to inspire all girls to be strong, smart and bold. Girls Inc. launched Operation SMART in 1985 to sustain girls' skills and interest in science, math, and technology. Hands-on activities give girls the opportunity to explore, ask questions, and solve problems. See a thank you letter and pictures.

The South Texas Academy and Milby Science Institute Summer Intern Program (STMP)

These are two- and one-week programs respectively designed for students enrolled in the South Texas Science Academy, a magnet school in the South Texas ISD in Mercedes, Texas and the Milby Science Institute, a magnet program in HISD. CEEE provides undergraduate and graduate mentors through the AGEPR.

Houston Urban Learning Initiatives Networked Community (HULINC)

This NSF-funded Houston Urban Systemic Initiative is heavily supported by CEEE. Richard Tapia chairs the Advisory Board and Cynthia Lanius was on the proposal writing team and program design team. Both continue to play active roles in its implementation. A University/College Coalition has been formed that brings together representatives from all area institutions of higher education to support the district's efforts at reform in science, mathematics and technology instruction.

Houston Alliance for Minority Participation (AMP)

Another initiative that the center has been highly instrumental in bringing to Houston is NSF's AMP. Its goal is to increase the production of underrepresented minority undergraduate degrees.

Expanding Your Horizons in Science and Mathematics (EYH)

This one-day science career awareness workshop for middle school female students and their parents and teachers from the Houston area is sponsored annually by the West Harris County Branch of the American Association of University Women. CEEE provides speakers for this event, held each April at The Rice School/La Escuela Rice.
