Rice Campus Parking Information

Visitor lots and garage

  • There are two free lots for visitors. The free visitors section of the West Lot is behind the Campus Police Station, which is at Entrance 8; the second free visitor lot is the Greenbriar Lot, between the football stadium and Greenbriar Avenue.
  • There are three close-in paid visitor lots on the east end of campus: the Founders Court Lot (at the end of Entrance 2 Lane at Founders Court); the North Visitor Lot (at entrance 13); and the Central Campus Garage, beneath the new Jones Graduate School (enter from Laboratory Road at the west end of the building).
  • These paid visitor lots charge at the rate of $1.50 per hour, but in increments of whole dollars only. The first 40 minutes cost $1.00, for example, up to 80 minutes is $2.00, and so on. The maximum charge for a day is $7.00. There is no overnight parking in the garage, and overnight parking will be discouraged in visitor sections of the surface lots.
  • To enter the Founders Court Visitor Lot or the North Visitor Lot, the visitor must use a credit card (VISA, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover). The credit card is inserted in the reader to open the gates when entering or exiting. Visitors must use the same card to exit that was used to enter. The mechanism will calculate the charge, and it will be billed automatically. There is no receipt for this transaction.
  • In the garage, the visitor pays at one of the pay-on-foot stations (near each elevator on the visitor level) and may pay with cash, credit card, or validation.
  • North Lot has one small section, of about 50 spaces, available to visitors all the time on a credit card in, credit card out basis. After 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and all day on weekends, visitors may also enter the large part of North Lot using their credit cards. When this lot is shared by faculty, staff, students, and visitors, everyone must use a card to exit the lot: faculty, staff, and students will use their prox-cards; visitors will use the same credit card they used to enter.

New map

  • A new map of the campus, indicating visitor parking, the new names of the lots, etc., is available upon request from the Rice Welcome Center in Lovett Hall, Fondren Library, the Ley Student Center Information Desk, RUPD and on any campus shuttle. You can also find it on a PDF at the website: http://www.ruf.rice.edu/~opa/ur/B&W_map.pdf
