The Engineering Bridges program at Rice University is a planning grant, funded by the National Science Foundation. For the duration of the grant, which will end during the Fall of 2003, we will be working to develop a comprehensive program designed to increase the number of underrepresented minority students who are excited, motivated, and well-prepared to enter engineering university majors and to complete those majors to graduation.

We anticipate that at the end of the one-year planning period, Rice, TSU, and HISD will be the nucleus of a myriad of partners that have developed a proposal for a focused Mathematics and Science Partnership that can become a national model for preparation of underrepresented students for engineering disciplines.
