Student Day at the Houston Autorama 2007 is a three-part program for high school students showing the connection between technology, cars, math and real life.

  • The first segment is taken from “Math Is Cool,” a five-component video program which demonstrates how math can be used to meet challenges in competitive sports and showing cars. This segment shows how a psychedelic video about Dr Richard Tapia’s award winning 1970 Chevelle show car was developed using mathematics and numerical computation. “Math Is Cool” has been presented to students and teachers across the country to enthusiastic response.

  • Next, Studio Works owner Danny Erdeljac, a mechanical engineer and successful Houston entrepreneur, will talk about how he uses engineering to reconstruct auto accidents for clients in business and industry.
  • In the last segment, students will have the opportunity to hear from owners from across the country about their experiences finding, restoring, and showing their cars in auto shows.

Engineering Speed will be at the George R. Brown Convention Center from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m., Friday, November 23, 2007 as part of the Houston/International Show Car Association Education Day.  There is no cost to the students or chaperones, but everyone must have already registered online and have received an e-mail response in order to attend.

Those attending the program will see the Auto Show for free, will also get a coupon for a free hot dog and soft drink, and will get a wristband pass that will get them into the car show for the entire weekend.

Note: This presentation is designed for high school age and older.  Since seating is limited, we have to ask you not to bring students who are not at least in the 6th grade or higher.  Thanks!
